Sean “Diddy” Combs, the ex-boyfriend of R&B singer Cassie, is facing a shocking lawsuit from her, alleging that he subjected her to repeated physical violence for more than 10 years, sexually exploited her, sexually assaulted her, sexually battered her, and violated a New York City law against gender-based violence.

The New York Times reported that the lawsuit was filed on Thursday (Nov. 16) in a federal court in Manhattan under the Adult Survivors Act of New York State, which gives sexual abuse survivors a chance to sue their alleged abusers after the legal deadline has passed. The deadline to file cases under this law is next week.

“I decided to speak up about the trauma I have experienced and that I will be recovering from for the rest of my life, because I realized that this was an opportunity to do so with the expiration of New York’s Adult Survivors Act fast approaching,” said Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura-Fine.

Her lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, said that they had talked to Combs about the lawsuit before filing it and Combs reportedly offered Ventura “eight figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit,” but “she rejected his efforts.”

She met the music mogul, who owns Combs Global, in 2005, when she was 19, and claims that he started his “pattern of control and abuse” almost right away. He allegedly drugged her with ecstasy and ketamine, attacked her, and made her have sex with several male prostitutes while he watched, masturbated, and filmed the acts. Near the end of their relationship in 2018, Ventura claims that Combs forced his way into her home and raped her.

“I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up for myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” said Ventura, 37, in a statement.

The lawsuit also accuses Combs of being responsible for other violent acts, such as hanging Ventura’s friend over a hotel balcony and blowing up Kid Cudi’s car, which the rapper confirmed to be true. It also claims that Combs had helpers who helped him hide his “controlling” behavior.

“The lawsuit noted that “Ms. Ventura felt that saying ‘no’ to Mr. Combs would cost her something — her family, her friends, her career, or even her life.”

Combs’ lawyer, Ben Brafman, issued a statement in response to the lawsuit: “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations. Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million for the past six months, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail. Despite withdrawing her initial threat, Ms. Ventura has now resorted to filing a lawsuit riddled with baseless and outrageous lies, aiming to tarnish Mr. Combs’s reputation and seeking a payday.”

Ventura and Diddy broke up in 2019, and she married trainer Alex Fine. They have two children.
