The California 'monster' nanny is Matthew Zakrzewski, a 34-year-old man who worked as a child caretaker for many families across Southern California.

He advertised his services as "the original Sitter Buddy" and "manny" on several websites, offering regular and on-demand childcare, as well as mentoring services for children.

He was convicted by a jury of 34 felony counts, including lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14 and oral copulation of a child under 10, the Orange County District Attorney's Office said.

He sexually assaulted children ranging in age from 2 to 12 between January 2014 and May 2019, and filmed many of the vile attacks. He also showed pornography to a 17-year-old boy with the intent to molest him.

He was first reported to the police in May 2019 by a Laguna Beach couple who accused him of inappropriately touching their 8-year-old son. The police then discovered 15 more victims across Southern California.

He was arrested on May 17, 2019, at LAX airport after getting off an international flight.

He was sentenced on November 3, 2023, to 707 years to life plus 8 years in prison by Orange County Superior Court Judge Steven Bromberg, who called him a "monster" and a "predator" who inflicted "unimaginable terror" on his victims.

District Attorney Todd Spitzer said that Zakrzewski's sentence was the longest ever imposed in Orange County history for a single defendant . He also praised the courage of the victims and their families for coming forward and testifying against Zakrzewski.

Zakrzewski's attorney, Brian Gurwitz, said that he plans to appeal the conviction and the sentence, arguing that the evidence was insufficient and the jury was biased.
